How a Convention Center Was Transformed to Save Lives
Like other buildings, government buildings are not immune to the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic. On occasion, they need to be transformed from their original purpose.
Randy Ehret explained how ESD helped convert three halls in the McCormick Place convention center – which is owned by the Metropolitan Pier and Exposition Authority, a creation of the Illinois government – into a COVID-19 alternative patient care facility in “Best Practices for Designing Government Buildings” during an MEP Roundtable for Consulting-Specifying Engineer (CSE) magazine. He explained how the ESD team modified the ventilation system so it could perform in negative-pressure mode and still meet temperature requirements, among other accomplishments that were forged while meeting an extremely tight deadline.
