Comfort While You Wait

In a highly competitive airline industry, membership perks go a long way towards building relationships with customers. By redesigning many of their member clubs, United Airlines is increasing member comfort while maintaining a high-end, luxurious environment during wait times. ESD provided MEP and Fire Protection design services for United?s first club redesign at Chicago?s O?Hare International Airport, the new standard going forth for United Clubs across the country.

ESD replaced United Club?s air handler unit to improve the air flow and quality within the space, and new thermostats throughout the club were installed to regulate the temperature.

In order to take advantage of the natural light shining in through the floor-to-ceiling windows along the back wall of the club, a new automated lighting system design using LED lights and DALI (Digital Addressable Lighting Interface) technology automatically adjusts the lighting throughout the day according to occupancy levels and the time of day. An automated shade system also helps maintain lighting balance and reduces glare by adjusting throughout the day.

Stainless steel and recessed components were used to create the minimalist design aesthetic and seamlessly integrate the lighting, plumbing, and mechanical systems into the interior design. These include modern sprinkler heads, convector covers, and temperature sensors, as well as recessed and high-end plumbing designs.

This O?Hare location of the United Club opened in December 2012 and we have recently completed a similar design in United?s Seattle Tacoma Airport.
