ESD Becomes Own Client in Designing Living Lab
What’s it like to design your own office space in one of the world’s most iconic buildings?
Nathan Snydacker, Rob Knight and Steven Monforton answered that question and more in “ESD's New Headquarters was Built and Designed to Be Adapted on the Fly” in the latest issue of Engineered Systems magazine. “We drew from our toolkit of lessons learned,” they wrote about ESD’s new headquarters in the Willis Tower. “As it turns out, we had the same goals as many of our clients.”
The idea of a living lab took root. “ESD chose to employ many of the current, potential, and newly available solutions from our partnering vendors and clients to ‘try them out’ in real time,” the authors note. “By doing so, we’re effectively comparing them to each other while using them as teaching tools for the firm’s junior engineers.”
