How to Improve Energy Efficiency in Aging Facilities

Chicago is well on its way to achieving its goal of reducing greenhouse gas emissions by 80 percent of 1990 levels by 2050. A panel at this year’s Chicago Build Expo will examine how making older buildings more energy efficient can significantly advance this effort.

ESD Technical Authority Suzan Sun-Yuan will be joining a panel of experts discussing how to “Maximize Energy Efficiency in Old Buildings.” Sun-Yuan says progress can be gained by improving insulation, upgrading ventilation systems, using more efficient LED lights, and pursuing LEED certification for aging facilities.

Other topics being covered at Chicago Build 2022 will be “Workplaces of the Future,” “Achieving Net Zero: The Power of Effective Collaboration,” “Key Principles of Sustainable Design: Create a Legacy Without Breaking the Bank,” and much more. Registration for a limited number of free tickets to the October 13 – 14 event at Chicago’s McCormick Place are available.

Suzan Sun-Yuan brings her extensive experience in the design of commercial, institutional, and educational facilities to ESD’s mission to improve society through the built environment.
