Utilizing BIM 4D Capabilities to Improve Resource Management

Building information modeling (BIM), in combination with project management practices, offers advantages such as flexibility, speed, accuracy, and assistance in the decision-making process and scenario analysis. BIM creates scenario planning while potentially shortening the design and construction schedule.

Since BIM software providers have introduced new terms into the lexicon such as "4-dimensional, or 4D," which is generally understood to mean 3D plus time, we can optimize BIM for even better resource management.

For a more in-depth examination of how to utilize BIM 4D capabilities for project management and scheduling, read Julide Demirdoven’s article in The Journal of the National Institute of Building Sciences, "Resource Optimization Using 4D Scheduling Techniques with Location-Based Systems."
