John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts

Washington D.C.

With five major theaters – including the Concert Hall, Opera House, and Eisenhower Theater – the Center supports the nation’s busiest arts facility with over 3,000 performances a year. It includes offices, shops, dressing rooms, rehearsal rooms, and related maintenance support spaces.

Constructed in 1971, many of the building’s original systems had reached a point where a major overhaul or replacement was required. ESD has conducted ongoing field investigations and projects completed to date on the Center have include a fire alarm / life safety system replacement, lighting and lighting controls upgrades, HVAC unit replacement, electrical service upgrades and replacement, BAS replacement, and MEP renovation. The energy savings experienced by the Center paid for the improvements made to the facility.
