Amtrak announced a massive six-year project in and around Union Station recently – and ESD will play a major role in its success.
ESD will provide mechanical, electrical, plumbing, fire protection and technology engineering services for the $1 billion three-phase project set to begin in 2018. The firm was chosen among a number of engineering competitors during a year-long process. New residential and office towers are key components of the Amtrak project, which will encompass more than three million square feet of commercial development in the West Loop. Improved street entrances will aid pedestrian traffic flow entering and leaving the train station.
