ESD is working on the space for the new Chervon North American headquarters, which will encompass more than 100,000 square feet and will house almost 150 employees in Naperville.
ESD is providing mechanical, electrical, and plumbing engineering along with structured cabling and other services for the Chinese power tool manufacturer, which is moving from Michigan to an empty building. The first-floor space is designed for functions and will feature a café, customer experience center, plan-o-gram room, assembly area and a test lab. The second floor will accommodate office functions including open workstation areas, a photo studio and other support spaces. About 70,000 square feet of the 124,000-square-foot project will be new office space.
As with all projects, there are challenges ESD looks forward to overcome, according to Project Manager Tiffany Biagini.
“One of the major challenges is ensuring the space is designed for the people it will be housing along ESD’s principle of fit for purpose,” she says, pointing out that beyond the headquarters the space will also house the Skil brand that Chervon recently acquired from Bosch.
“Designing the space to make both brands come together into a new place is the task at hand,” she notes. “We have accomplished this in the design phase through collaborating with both groups to understand how they work in their current spaces.”
As Crain’s Chicago Business noted, “The Chervon deal is good news for the west suburban economy, bringing jobs to Naperville and filling one of several big empty spaces in the area.” It is another way ESD is Improving Society Through the Built Environment.
