ESD Client Recognized for Analytics-Based Energy Management Solution

ESD client Kerry was recognized in 2018  by the Smart Energy Analytics Campaign for installation of a new fault detection and diagnostics system at its facility in Beloit, Wis.

The Smart Energy Analytics Campaign is a U.S. Department of Energy program offering recognition for analytics-based energy management solutions, like the monitoring-based commissioning project that Kerry Taste and Nutrition is undertaking in conjunction with ESD. Participants commit to installing and using an energy information system and reporting on progress annually. They are also eligible to apply for national recognition for their commitment to energy reduction and are showcased as a success story on the campaign’s website. Kerry was also recognized at the Building Commissioning Association Conference as a 2018 awardee.

A monitoring-based commissioning system leveraging fault detection and diagnostics software was installed at Kerry’s site in May 2018 following Kerry’s facilities team engaging ESD to carry out an energy audit in Beloit. ESD used the information from the system to identify and verify energy conservation measures (ECMs), saving over 20% on energy costs annually. ESD also provided quality assurance for the software installation process and managed the utility incentive procurement covering almost 40% of the project cost.

ESD has also achieved recognition from the campaign: The program acknowledges proven providers of analytics-based energy management and information systems and creates a network of industry partners. As a Supporting Partner, ESD pledges to promote the campaign and its goals with customers and help them take advantage of this opportunity to be recognized for taking leadership steps in energy management. In addition to energy savings and operational improvements, taking advantage of monitoring-based commissioning allows customers to participate in the campaign and gain access to recognition, networking and other resources.

Why Should Building Owners Consider Electrification as a Sustainability Strategy?

Using electricity in lieu of natural gas can position a facility to reduce its on-site operational carbon footprint over time. That is especially true as utility sources such as wind and photovoltaic reach cost parity with coal and natural gas making the grid profile more renewable each year.
