Chicago?s New LEED Platinum Certified Showroom

Interface Global, the world?s leading designer and maker of carpet tiles, received USGBC?s highest level of LEED certification ? Platinum ? for its new Chicago showroom.

The project started with an empty shell in a mixed-use building. While this allowed Interface to design the space to their specific needs, it also meant that all MEP/FP systems had to be designed from scratch. Also, located underneath the building?s parking garage, the underside of the concrete above had to be insulated to keep heat inside the space. The collaboration between ESD, Boeman Design, CBRE, and ICG Construction led to the successful implementation of various sustainable design elements in a tight project schedule and under budget.

The sustainable design elements of the space include high efficiency HVAC equipment, innovative low impact zoning and controls design, LED lighting, and low flow plumbing fixtures.

Interface?s vision, combined with the design team?s planning and coordination, led to a rare zero comments from the LEED review.  Interface?s LEED Platinum certification exceeded their initial goal of Silver, and the showroom is the only Platinum Certified Showroom in Chicago to date.
