A desire to simplify how devices are connected along with an increased demand for energy efficiency drive the need to expand the capabilities of Power over Ethernet. Application of this technology has dramatically increased to provide new expectations about flexibility and opportunities in the built environment. In part, this increase is due to the Internet of Things. I enjoy writing and talking about the capabilities and considerations of PoE and offer this link: Power and Cooling Implications… for additional information I developed on this subject. Additionally, on Thursday, December 3rd, BICSI President-elect Brian Ensign and I will offer our perspective on PoE design considerations as well as provide an update on relevant industry standards from ANSI/TIA, the IEEE and others at the Chicago Area Structured Cabling & Technology Industry Seminar.
