A world-class hub, UI LABS’ Digital Manufacturing and Design Innovation Institute (DMDII) invites academic, industry, and government collaboration on the development and employment of cutting-edge digital manufacturing technologies within a 94,000 sf, single-floor facility on Chicago’s Goose Island.
Along with the 22,000-sf manufacturing lab, the facility includes offices, a conference center, classroom and training facilities, and project collaboration spaces. The workspace is flexible to accommodate project teams of various sizes and working styles while supporting both a quiet work environment and a space where people can collaborate. The conference/collaboration spaces include a large divisible room, training rooms, a board room, project focus spaces, and a tiered seminar room. The facility is served by a powerful wired data network extended with a robust wireless component to provide functionality, portability, and flexibility.
During the design phase, ESD’s Technology Consulting team provided IT management for the 40- person staff being migrated into the new facility. We assisted in the development of an IT strategy for the facility in alignment with the organization’s objectives as well as a unified communication strategy that includes wired and wireless data networks. Our team then provided migration planning and management services in the technology infrastructure.
To accomplish UI Labs’ goal of LEED Silver certification, our sustainability team provided the LEED coordination and documentation required by the USGBC (United States Green Building Council).
