Position Summary

We are looking for an IT Systems Administrator to join our Chicago team! Under the direction of the Senior Systems Manager you will have the authority to develop, implement, maintain and coordinate the IT infrastructure systems for maximum availability and new and upgraded technology projects.

Essential duties and responsibilities

Under Senior Systems Manager guidance, help install, configure, maintain and support these systems:

  • Servers (file, application, virtual, print, etc.)
  • Network (local and wide area)
  • Storage, including backup and archiving of data
  • Internet connectivity
  • IP Phone system

Manage, program, monitor and evaluate computer systems and electronic information processing activities to include: doing the following

  • Monitor all systems for capacity and operational efficiency
  • Support and coordinate IT infrastructure for maximum availability
  • Proactively trouble-shoot IT infrastructure related issues
  • Diagnose and provide solutions to recurrent problems that need attention
  • Decide practicality of system changes and modifications
  • Develop and support products to increase efficiency and reduce tickets
  • Design and implement workflow automations
  • Use development tools to write and test code to develop solutions for the company
  • Use programming skills, find and identify bugs in codebases external to IT team
  • Ensure IT equipment and hardware work efficiently
  • Monitor and reinforce compliance to standards and policies
  • Communicate system/technical concerns to Senior Systems Manager
  • Coordinate and install IT infrastructure hardware/software; install, test, monitor, and configure system hardware and software to meet department and company needs
  • Upkeep server, storage and network resources using varied utilities to trouble-shoot, repair, and verify server configuration
  • Maintain records and documents for department computer systems
  • Use technical manuals to convey issues to employees with varied degrees of computer familiarity
  • Engage in professional development activities to stay current in IT, design and construction industry practices (e.g., educational activities, publications, and maintain personal networks)
  • Actively participate in the IT professional community to build personal knowledge and professional growth and convey qualifications to the public (ex. attend meetings/seminars/conferences)
  • Complete other activities as directed by the Senior Systems Manager

Qualifications / Skill-sets

Possess thorough knowledge and understanding of the following:

  • ESD IT infrastructure to add or make modifications as needed.
  • Functions and operations of computers
  • Server and networking concepts, architectures and solutions
  • Storage, backup and archiving concepts, architectures and solutions
  • Commercial computer software including database software and local and wide area networks (LANs & WANs), including hardware/software installation
  • General principles of office automation and computer systems analysis
  • Programming languages and application development using PowerShell. Markdown. C#: WPF, TestStack, White, Windows Automation. JavaScript: Typescript, NodeJS; Phantom.JS. Web Stacks: React, Redux, MongoDB; Mongoose.
  • Adept at problem solving; responds to unforeseen events that can directly impact services to users
  • Use sound judgment to identify pros and cons of proposed solutions to fix problems/situations
  • Exhibit strong communication skills to interact and convey tasks to co-workers, leaders, and vendors
  • Manage multiple priorities and adapt to changes in a reliable, responsible, and timely fashion

Education / Certification / Experience

  • Associate or Bachelor Degree in Information Technology related major (preferred) or 2 years of relevant technical work experience (minimum)

Possess appropriate professional credentials to include:

  • Microsoft Server Certification (preferred)
  • Network Certification (preferred)
  • Other Back Office Application Certification (preferred)
