Operations Director-High Performance Buildings-Chicago

Position Summary

Our High Performance Buildings team seeks an Operations Director (OD) with a Consulting Engineering background to join our Chicago team! You will apply your strong leadership and interpersonal skills to build teams to overcome obstacles and deliver results to our clients. The OD will oversee projects, people and clients to include: project contracts and execution, quality management, staffing, HR coordination, employee and client satisfaction, team training and support firmwide initiatives. Through focused collaboration with other ODs, Technical Support Services, Business Development, Marketing, Accounting, Human Resources and Practice Leaders (PL) you will successfully manage resources, project risk and QA/QC, sales goals, marketing collateral/project close-out data, finances, employee matters, and strategic planning.

Essential duties and responsibilities

  • Collaborate to develop and execute the operations plan to identify revenue, profitability, utilization, and resources to meet firm and business unit goals.
  • Plan and manage staff, and QA/QC needs to meet goals of the business plan, project delivery, client relations, and new business.
  • Monitor and oversee project financial performance.
  • Review, produce and upkeep RFPs and contracts.
  • Set up structures, schedules, duties, and accountabilities to evaluate staff.
  • Review performance and career development plans prepared by team members and supervisors.
  • Improve, document, manage, and upkeep structures to maintain employee discipline and performance.

Qualifications / Skill-sets

  • Solid experience managing engineering operations and finances required.
  • Strong knowledge of cross-discipline project management necessary.
  • Able to organize, analyze, and problem solve; flexible and collaborative.
  • Possess solid communication and presentation skills to convey complex ideas, and solutions to clients, co-workers, and technical teams.
  • Driven with a positive attitude and strong work ethic to address complex situations.
  • Has detailed knowledge and leadership of engineering practices and procedures.
  • Possess critical and analytical thinking skills to create, convey, and deploy engineering and business strategies.

Education / Certification / Experience

  • BS/Master’s degree in engineering.
  • 15 years+ of consulting specifying engineering in High Performance Buildings.
  • Registered professional engineer (PE) license or ability to gain licensure.
  • MBA is a plus.
